Day Look Makeup & Lighting Test
Before I shot my advertisement for the day look I needed to make sure that the makeup would translate properly on camera. This was mostly important for the day look as the product I was featuring was that of the Givenchy Poudre Lumier Originelle which is a highlighting powder created as part of the beauty collection for Spring/Summer 2016. The photography settings that were used for this shoot were two beauty dishes, the reason for this is that the Givenchy ad campaigns are very brightly lit with very little shadowing and crisp clear skin. The best way to achieve this is with a bright lamp however there is a balance between achieving the bright image and loosing the effect of the makeup due to the light. At the time of these test images I did not have a backdrop available therefore this image was taken against a white brick wall which supplied the closest similar backdrop to the one I would be using on the day. Overall I was pleased with how the makeup came out as you can see the soft pigments on the eyes and lips but most importantly the skin looks even and clear. The highlight that I applied to the forehead, nose, cheeks and collar bones is visibly and lights up beautifully. I particularly like the way it illuminates the collar bone as I feel that often the body is neglected when being made up as all the focus is put onto the face, as a result I felt it was even more important to carry the strobing down the rest of the body. I feel that using a beauty dish is going to give me the best effect for illuminating the face and emphasising the makeup to the best of its ability. Now I just need to shoot the final look against a white background which will bounce even more light back creating a nice ethereal effect that is similar to that used by Givenchy. The lighting set up itself was similar to that used by Givenchy for their La Revelation Organelle advertisement with two beauty dishes and an illuminating backdrop to bounce the light forward from behind the model.
