This image is from my second attempt at using the veil as part of my experimentation for the Givenchy illuminating powder campaign. This time around around I had the lighting and makeup figured out from my main photoshoot and test shoots and understood a better method of bouncing light through the material without causing over exposure or loosing the visibility of the makeup/skin as a result of the fabric. To achieve this the model was stood against a white polyboard, this material acts as a source to bounce light back at the model and camera, often this is placed at the side of a model however as i wanted to create a lit from behind effect without dramatic shadowing I placed my model infant of it. By doing so I was able to have the bright beauty dish lighting on my models front (this was done at a higher angle to hit directly onto the high points of the face) and also send enough light back to the camera through the polyboard that the fabric glistened without losing effect. Previously finding this balance had proved almost impossible, however through my test shoot I was able to recognise what changes had to be made. In addition to this is the change of model, this is my final model choice for my advertisement campaign as I feel she carries more of the aesthetics that Givenchy use within their own campaign images, this includes the fact that she is slightly older looking than my original model who was too doll like. The models long features compliment the makeup and veil more as her neck creates a greater distance between how the makeup and body are lit. Due to the change in lighting the natural makeup is more visible and instead the overall effect is more ethereal, natural and slightly bridal as opposed to art based and dull.
Although I am pleased with the result of this second test shoot I am unsure how well these images will translate into advertisement as the makeup is still not as visible as it would be without the fabric overlay, regardless these are beauty shots that I am happy with. This image in particular is my favourite from the shoot and one that I would like to keep in my portfolio regardless of its final use in the creation of my advertisements.
